  • There are two reasons the Republicans will capitulate later, rather than now. First, if the cave now, they’ll lose the little base they have left going into the election. Second, there is still plenty of time to cave. GOP leadership can bide their time and look for a way to stealthily capitulate and avoid outright angering the base.
  • Here’s how it will happen. Liberal republicans will start to break ranks—we’ve already seen this with some senators starting to suggest we should give Obama’s nominee a hearing. Then, Obama will nominate a stealth liberal, perhaps a liberal Republican, and use his political capital to convince these RINO senators and blue-state Republicans that accepting his nominee will be a grand display of bipartisanship.

This is a special edition of the podcast on the results of the #SCPrimary. It is important to realize that while the voters clearly picked Donald Trump over the rest of the field, there are certain things that they did not vote for that need to be brought out into the light and talked about.

  • In recent years establishment Republicans win by running on conservative principles and values, and not on their moderate (establishment) based records. (Think – 2012 and Mitch McConnell.)
  • This is because elections don’t boil down to principles – they are too often decided on personalities.
  • We need to start asking WHAT won instead of WHO won – otherwise we will be electing good campaigners instead of people with good policies and principles.

The GOP field is now down to 6 main candidates as they head to South Carolina. This is where the showdown between personalities and principles will finally happen, which is why we at Conservative Review are holding our Conservative Convention in South Carolina.

Will the PERSONALITY candidates show they have any substance behind their act?

Will the PRINICPLE-based candidates hit the main stage and show they can win?

  • As the GOP field heads to the ever-important South Carolina primary, we at CR are hosting the first ever Conservative Convention looking to highlight the major leaders and champions of conservatism. Will voters choose Principles or Personalities in the 2016 primary race?
  • Is Donald Trump a one-issue candidate basing his entire success and campaign on his strong anti-immigration stance? Daniel says that beyond that, he isn’t any better, and in some ways worse, than the other moderate candidates.
  • This is a two man race between Donald and Cruz, but will the others remain in long enough to hand Donald the nomination?

Finishing 3rd is now better than winning.

In politics Bronze has become the new Gold. Who knew that finishing 3rd was so compelling and great? Well, after Iowa, you would think that to finish 3rd is the best thing a campaign could do, evidenced by the way the media played up Marco Rubio finishing third, while discounting all the reasons Ted Cruz won. Interestingly though, just days prior to the Iowa Caucuses, the media gave Cruz little chance of beating Trump, but even Donald’s 2nd place finish was met with little fanfare. Daniel and Joe break down why this happened and what it means moving forward.

  • Mainstream media has a bias; we know that, but to see it in full force this week after Iowa is mind numbing.
  • The results in Iowa tell a compelling story for many of the candidates, but instead the media has been reporting on things that didn’t happen.
  • Daniel explains that it wasn’t the outcome they have been covering but instead fitting the outcome to serve their narrative.

 Show Notes:

  • The Iowa Primary is the first primary in the 2016 GOP Candidacy race, and the results could tell us everything we need to know about the eventual nominee.
  • Daniel argues that a year ago, or even just a few months ago, few would have predicted that heading into the first primary, the polls would look the way they do – and he gives his thoughts on why they do.
  • At this point, everything points to this being a two man race, but Iowa’s results could change everything – what do they mean for the rest of the primaries?

  • There is a 4th Branch of government – the unelected administrative state. Not only are they unelected but are pre-disposed to attracting staff with liberal philosophies.
  • Daniel tackles the question of whether any of the 2016 candidates are suited to cleaning house and reforming the federal departments in a significant way; ‘Who will devolve the 4th Branch?’
  • Trump: Daniel argues that his business background actually makes him a worse choice to tackle the 4th Branch because of his predisposition to administrative efficiency and compromise.

Daniel Horowitz on Twitter:

  • Daniel posits the question: Will the GOP Congress and other elected officials rise to the occasion and place the proper importance on the key principles for America: Security, Sovereignty, and Society? Or will it be more of the usual - bending to every Obama whim?
  • The GOP's response to Obama has been impotent and feckless, seen best by their abdication of the Power of the Purse and their lack of ability to stem Obama's constitutional walk over on gun control.
  • He also points out that one of the few remaining leverage points the GOP has against Obama - judicial nominees - appears to be no ground that they willing to fight upon, meaning that Obama will have smooth sailing to appoint even more judges to uphold his unconstitutional policies.
  • Will 2016 be the year the GOP finally stands up and upholds principle - or - will it be more business as usual?

Daniel explains that 2015 was the year when conservatives finally started to walk away from the GOP due to betrayal after betrayal. They have started splitting up their "things" and their is a Great Divorce happening within the GOP.

  • Daniel gives his view on the growing divide between what conservative voters in the grassroots want and what the GOP Elites in Washington actually do while in congress.
  • He highlights the problems in the recent Omnibus spending bill, using examples to show that Paul Ryan is just like Boehner – promises made to conservatives, but the end result is capitulation to the Obama Agenda.
  • The Marco Rubio vs. Ted Cruz immigration and foreign policy debate is illustrative of how there are two sides to the Republican Party. One is fairly conservative, while the other is focused on “governing” which looks a whole lot like aiding-and-abetting the Obama Administration.

  • Daniel argues that the political chattering class in the media, and the political ‘elite’ who hate on Donald Trump are actually fueling his rise because of how Out of Touch they are.
  • Immigration continues to be the hot issue and the political pundits don’t realize where the people are on it and instead are making Trump the problem.
  • Daniel argues that Trump may not be the answer – but that he isn’t the problem America needs to worry about… rampant immigration increases, the lack of Security brought about by terrorism, Obama, and a feckless GOP establishment are the seminal issues of the day.

  • This week Daniel explains how the issue of Security is paramount in importance if conservatives not only want to win in 2016 but also preserve liberty in America.
  • He says it is a perfect opportunity for Republicans to reclaim control of their “law and order” supremacy in American politics.

  • Trying to place the terrorism problem the world faces into an “Us vs. Them” dichotomy is impossible, and we must look at what we as a nation can do to protect our interests and way of life.
