- There are two reasons the Republicans will capitulate later, rather than now. First, if the cave now, they’ll lose the little base they have left going into the election. Second, there is still plenty of time to cave. GOP leadership can bide their time and look for a way to stealthily capitulate and avoid outright angering the base.
- Here’s how it will happen. Liberal republicans will start to break ranks—we’ve already seen this with some senators starting to suggest we should give Obama’s nominee a hearing. Then, Obama will nominate a stealth liberal, perhaps a liberal Republican, and use his political capital to convince these RINO senators and blue-state Republicans that accepting his nominee will be a grand display of bipartisanship.
